Introduction to Ayurveda is an 8-hour introductory workshop for the beginning to intermediate student who is wanting to learn foundational Ayurvedic concepts and tools for increased health and well-being. Topics include: unraveling the three doshas (vata, pitta, kapha), understanding your Ayurvedic constitution, healing emotions with Ayurveda, aromatherapy, Ayurvedic nutrition basics and home remedies. Introduction to Ayurveda is the Institute's entry-level public workshop offered once a year in live format, or MAY BE TAKEN IN MP3 AUDIO FORMAT WHEN NECESSARY (please see below for details). Our live format meets three consecutive Tuesday evenings at Moonrise Herbs in Arcata, California. *Introduction to Ayurveda serves as prerequisite to the Ayurvedic Wellness Program and the Ayurvedic Herbalist Program. This workshop is approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) for 8 Hours of Continuing Education for Massage Therapists and Body Workers. Students who are taking the workshop for continuing education hours may request to receive an Introduction to Ayurveda certificate of completion from the Institute.
- Class 1: Five-Element Theory, Unraveling the Three Doshas (Vata, Pitta, Kapha), Understanding Your Ayurvedic Constitution, Healing Emotions through Ayurveda
- Class 2: Ayurvedic Nutrition Basics and Six Tastes
- Class 3: Home Remedies! with in-class medicine making and yummy take-home
Traci Webb, CAS, PKT, CMT is Founder and Director of the Northwest Institute of Ayurveda. Traci has been studying holistic medicine for twenty-five years. Her love of the Vedic sciences began in 1991 while studying Yoga and meditation with her mentor—Soneji—whom she continues to study with to this day. She holds a 2.5 year Clinical Ayurveda certification, a 6-month Panchakarma certification, a 500-hour massage certification, a BA degree in Psychology from UCI, and is trained in Jyotisha Vedic Astrology (K.N. Rao lineage). She is a nationally approved massage continuing education provider, and a California State Certified Massage Therapist, with over 600-hours of training in massage, panchakarma therapies and Asian body therapies. She underwent an Ayurvedic apprenticeship with a BAMS Gujarat Ayurved University graduate from India, and has studied with numerous renown vaidyas and teachers over the years.
